Meet the Principal

NKCS has always adhered to advanced educational concepts, imported high-quality educational resources, continuously reformed and integrated Chinese and Western education, precipitating the unique genes belonging to NKCS.

As the 2024-2025 school year is about to begin, this is not only the beginning of a new semester for NKCS, but also an essential moment for NKCS to embark on a new journey after the 6th anniversary of the founding of the school.

Passing on the torch, and moving forward. In the new year, Jason Z., the new Academic Assistant Head for the Lower Secondary School, has joined the loving learning community at NKCS. He believes that children can develop holistically when they are truely empowered.

Academic Assistant Head for the Lower Secondary School Jason Z.

Jason Z is a forward-thinker and international-minded leader who is passionate about education. He has taught and managed in private schools throughout Canada, Korea, and China. Jason is a Chinese-Canadian with over 18 years of international teaching and management experience, he has a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Winnipeg and finishing his master’s degree in education from the Queen’s University of Canada. Jason first came to China over 13 years ago. He started his education career in Zhengzhou, Henan developing international curriculum and courses for over 16 public and private schools benefiting over 8000 students. In his free time, Jason also volunteers as a guest lecturer for educational organizations throughout China such as Wuhan Hua Zhong Normal University.

“I am a strong believer that education is the key to changing the world. I hope my understanding of the Chinese students’ learning abilities combined with my experience in international education will benefit the students at DSAS.”

Jason firmly believes that education is the key to changing the world. He hopes that his knowledge of Chinese students' learning abilities, coupled with his experience in international education, will benefit the students at NKCS.

‘My teaching philosophy has always and will be to develop well-round students in three major areas; academics and knowledge, learning skills, and personal skills. ’ Learning is the foundation of a school. In today's competitive world, a solid knowledge of the subject matter is vital. Strong subject-based knowledge is crucial in today's competitive world. However, getting good grades is not everything in his mind. Even ivy league schools don't just look at a student's GPA. Getting high scores on tests is actually the easy part.

Jason believes that spending more time developing your child's individual abilities is key, especially for Chinese students. Chinese students are better able to grasp new knowledge than students from most other countries, but at the same time, they lack creativity and self-confidence.

Therefore, Jason often advises parents to spend more time with their children and try to develop critical thinking, creativity, co-operation and time management skills through practical activities such as sports, physical activities, travelling and reading, to help them move forward in their knowledge acquisition. Personal skills such as communication, respect, adaptability and resilience are the tools students need to succeed beyond their studies,’ he admits. Students need to be prepared not only for college, but also for stepping into the real world.’

NKCS is a learning community that integrates the best of international and Chinese education. Our mission is to blend the best of Chinese and Western education to build a world-class community that inspires each student to reach his or her highest potential for a lifetime. In fact, this is one of the reasons why Jason chose to come to NKCS, as the school's core values are completely in line with his educational philosophy.

Aristotle once said, ‘The root of education is bitter, but the fruit is sweet.’ As Jason always tell his students that hard work pays off. ‘I worked hard every day in my life to get to where I am.’ It's not the occasional thing you do that shapes a person, it's what you do consistently, and Jason will continue to work hard to pass that energy on to his students and those around him in an effort to make some positive impact at NKCS.
