1. Give full play to the advantageous disciplines

On Gary's path to successfully being admitted to the Economics program at the University of Cambridge, his college counselor played an indispensable role. Gary is a highly driven student, but having too many options can lead to scattered focus and excessive pressure. His counselor provided precise planning tailored to his situation, selecting the most suitable extracurricular activities for him, assisting him in applying for the highly competitive Pioneer Research Program, and recommending that he attend the Cambridge University Summer School.

During the application process, the college counselor meticulously guided Gary through the essay writing process, helping him use concise and powerful language to showcase his academic potential and passion for economics. When Gary felt anxious due to the pressure of the application, the counselor consistently provided patient psychological support and warm encouragement, helping him face challenges with a positive mindset.

In addition to the weekly Panel Review, the college counseling office organized an application materials review committee to carefully read his application materials and offer improvement suggestions.

The gifted education center regularly organized students passionate about economics to study core quantitative analysis methods in economics, and Gary was one of the most dedicated and outstanding participants. The economics teacher at the center helped him delve deeper into university-level economics content, such as addressing questions he encountered while studying Varian's Intermediate Microeconomics, and also provided guidance for his economics research project. Gary often proposed interesting economics topics, and several teachers at the center engaged in thorough discussions with him, helping him continuously refine his thinking. Ultimately, Gary successfully completed his research paper in his senior year and participated in the Shing-Tung Yau Economics and Financial Modeling Award.

Furthermore, King's College School assigned experienced teachers to conduct highly effective mock interviews for Gary.

It can be said that the comprehensive support and professional guidance from NKCS laid a solid foundation for Gary's Cambridge dream, ultimately helping him achieve his goal.

2. Give full play to the advantageous disciplines

From a young age, Gary was the so-called "model child" in the eyes of adults. After spending several years at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) Affiliated Primary School in Hefei, he successfully advanced to the USTC Affiliated Middle School which is the best in the city, beginning an intense junior high school academic journey. However, the heavy academic pressure made it difficult for him to adapt, and his grades began to decline. Having started learning English at the age of three, Gary consistently ranked among the top in English at school, making it practically his "second native language." Given this situation, and after discussions with his parents, he decided to leverage his language advantage and ease his academic burden by taking what some would call the "path of a defector"—leaving the traditional education system to enroll in an international high school in Hefei.

During his time in school, Gary's parents actively sought a higher and better platform that could further enhance his English proficiency. Soon, they came across NKCS. With many foreign teachers on campus, the school provided an excellent environment for Liu Mingyuan to improve his English skills. His later experiences there proved that it was a warm and united community.

3. Have an encounter with Economics

At NKCS, Gary had the opportunity to fully explore his interests, and it was here that he first fell in love with economics. Economics not only explains the reasons behind human societal progress but also transforms these reasons into economic theories to improve people's lives. Later, Gary chose to focus on the real estate industry, which is closely tied to people's livelihoods, and wrote multiple research papers on the subject.

"Real estate provides an essential necessity for people's lives and is a crucial social industry closely tied to public welfare." A significant portion of Gary's research papers focused on the study of real estate. Although China's real estate prices have declined recently, they had been rising continuously for over a decade, making the underlying causes worth examining.

5

At the beginning, Gary's knowledge base was not very extensive, so he initially used a linear regression model to analyze the factors influencing real estate prices in major cities. His findings revealed that urban per capita income was the most widely influential factor. From then on, he delved into more advanced modeling techniques and utilized the Lagrangian method to develop a general equilibrium model, conducting in-depth research on the relationships between various variables, such as government spending and per capita income.

4. Experience the vitality of economics

Gary believes that one of the greatest charms of economics lies in the clash and interplay of different ideas and schools of thought, from which truth gradually emerges. To cultivate and discover more students interested in economics, he founded the Advanced Economics Tutoring Club at his school.

In the club, he not only taught university-level theorems and formulas from a theoretical perspective but also introduced game theory concepts through interactive strategy games. By doing so, he effectively conveyed his research insights and deepened his fellow members' understanding of economic principles.

6

Gary not only enjoys the process of acquiring knowledge but also takes great pleasure in applying it. In the National Economics Challenge (NEC), he applied the Mundell-Fleming model to analyze the impact of exchange rate regimes on the effectiveness of a country's monetary and fiscal policies.

To Gary, economics is a discipline that combines both rationality and emotion. "Economics is not just about cold data, concepts, and formulas; it is a subject with warmth and humanity. When studying this discipline, one must not become an overly rational machine but should strive to be as rigorous as a mathematician while also embracing the passion and inspiration of an artist."

NKCS's diversified cultivation strategies assist top - tier students in fully unleashing their potential, achieving a dual improvement in academic performance and comprehensive qualities. This educational model not only lays a foundation for students to enter world - class universities but also prepares them to become global leaders and innovators in the future. Let's look forward to Gary's continuous progress in his beloved field!
