Nicholas Sutherland - Primary Homeroom Teacher(International School)

Nicholas Sutherland started his career in teaching in New Zealand after taking his Post Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning at the New Zealand Graduate School of Education. He soon decided to combine his twin passions for teaching and travel, and moved to Malaysia where he began his now 8 year journey in international education. He taught in an international school there, as well as managing educational projects, and training teams of teachers for the Malaysian Ministry of Education. Most recently he has been based at a large IB school in Guangdong, with the role of Primary International Coordinator. He is credited with successfully piloting and rolling out instructional guided reading program across the primary section, and through his leadership helping to significantly raise job satisfaction and retention rates amongst faculty.
Nick strongly believes that while we must always maintain high academic expectations for children, in order for them to be truly successful, we must nurture the whole child; guiding them to find and develop their talents both inside and out of the classroom. Nanwai King’s dedication to this ethos through pursuing academic excellence, a comprehensive pastoral care program, and emphasis on co-curricular activities are what makes Nick particularly excited about this project. Nick’s personal interests include learning languages, music, scuba diving, and staying fit.
