Since graduating with joint majors in physics and geology from Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom, Richard Beddoes has enjoyed a varied career in outdoor education and local government in the UK, as well as founding his own company that he managed for 10 years.
Married to an English teacher for more than 20 years, Richard decided five years ago to travel to Suzhou, China, where his wife had started a new job as an English teacher at an international high school. He obtained the Cambridge University Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults and his passion for helping students learn English led to a role as an English teacher at the school. During this time, he also obtained his Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PCGE) from the University of Nottingham, UK. He also took on several areas of responsibility in the school, including leading international award expeditions.
Richard is pleased to teach English as an Additional Language (EAL) as part of a dedicated team of professionals. He sees the learning of English as central to student success at school, university and throughout adult life and believes that students succeed when they are challenged to go beyond their ‘comfort zone’ with appropriate support.
He shares Nanwai King’s College School Wuxi’s holistic approach to education and enjoys helping students to develop their social and leadership skills through challenging co-curricular activities. He is keen to share his passion for outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking and indoor rock climbing.
