Derek Anderson is a graduate of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, where he completed a double major degree in English and history. He completed a postgraduate degree in primary education at the University of Dublin, Trinity College.
He has 10 years of teaching experience, having worked in both mainstream, learning support classes and in special education (hospital) settings, as well as working with children for whom English is not their first language. He has spent almost half of his teaching career working internationally, particularly for the Abu Dhabi Education Council in Al Ain, United Emirates, where he was a first-, second- and fifth-grade teacher, as well as English as a Second Language (ESL) coordinator. Prior to joining Nanwai King’s College School he worked for two years as a grade one to five teacher at 3e International School in Beijing.
Derek believes that children should be educated for life and enjoys working with parents and students to create a wonderful atmosphere and learning environment. He contributes to students’ academic and holistic development through sharing his passions via co-curricular activities, including a performing arts (‘Glee’) club and Lego club.
Outside of work, he has helped raise more than one million RMB in Ireland for various charities by utilising his singing and dancing talents on stage.
